Will Abercrombie was 14 years old, a three-sport athlete at Penn High School, when he came up with the idea for Little Blessing Bags entirely on his own.
The Right Bag at the Right Moment
A kid in crisis can’t focus on school. Little Blessing Bags exists to close that gap. A backpack packed with what a student needs to walk through the door feeling ahead, not behind.
We work directly with social workers in area schools. They know their students. When a child needs support, a bag goes into their hands quietly. Just a bag and the message that someone noticed.

The Story Behind Little Blessing Bags
Growing up, Will's family volunteered at local non-profits often working alongside families facing serious hardships like housing and food insecurity. While those experiences opened his eyes to different needs, it was the kids he couldn't stop thinking about.
In the fall of 2024, he started digging. He researched the connection between poverty, trauma, chronic absenteeism, and academics. The data confirmed what his gut already knew: when a child is in crisis at home, they cannot focus on learning.
In 2025, he launched Little Blessing Bags with no committee, no grant, no one telling him it was time. He built a school social worker network, packed every bag, drove every drop-off. By year’s end: 75 bags across 14 schools. Penn High School’s student newspaper, The Pennant, ran a feature on the mission.
In March 2026, when an EF-3 tornado hit Edwardsburg and Three Rivers, Michigan, he contacted Eby Ford Lincoln, who where collecting donations in one of their Transit van, helped to load up the van with all of his clothing for the next school year.
In 2026, Little Blessing Bags entered its next chapter as Will's younger brother, Noah Abercrombie, officially joined the team. Together, the brothers set an ambitious goal of delivering 200 Blessing Bags to more than 25 schools. While Will continues to strengthen the organization's impact throughout Michiana, Noah is focused on its future beyond the local community.
As a AAA hockey player, Noah has played on teams and built friendships with teammates across the Midwest and East Coast. Using those connections, he hopes to launch Little Blessing Bags chapters in their own communities. With several communities already committed, their vision is becoming more than a local initiative—it's growing into a youth-led movement.
Will is 16 years old. Will balances leading Little Blessing Bags while being a three-sport student-athlete enrolled in all AP and honors courses, and is involved in school clubs, including Young Life student leadership, DECA, and Key club. He came up with Little Blessing Bags on his own. No teacher assigned it. No program prompted it. He just kept thinking about the kids he’d seen struggling and decided to do something about it.
Faith is a big part of who Will is. Growing up, his family volenteered at local non-profits and was active at church. He also attends Kanakuk, a faith-based leadership and athletic summer camp built around the principle of "I'm Third"—putting God first, others second, and yourself third.
Those experiences didn't just teach Will the importance of serving others; they challenged him to look for ways to make a meaningful difference in his own community. It also helps that he had great examples, his great-grandfather was an usher at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for over 60 years.
Nobody told me to do this. I just kept thinking: if I can do something, why wouldn’t I?

Will reached out directly and they said yes. Cra-Z-Art has donated pencils and crayons, which go straight into bags for kids who need them.

Over 1,000 rulers donated. A national brand that showed up for a local kid with a good idea and students who needed supplies.

This Is Just the Beginning
Will built this from scratch in 2025. A year later, the model works, the schools are calling, and the mission is still growing.
Foundation Built
75 backpacks distributed to 14 schools. The model was proven, the partnerships established, and the community responded.
Growing the Mission
Expanding to 20 schools year-round. In March 2026, Will drove relief supplies to tornado victims in Edwardsburg and Three Rivers using a van donated by Eby Ford Lincoln. Turns out the mission doesn’t stop at school doors.
A Model Other Kids Can Copy
Noah is building a playbook. The goal is for a student in another city to be able to do exactly what he did, without having to start from zero.
