Started by a Kid Who Wanted to Help

Little Blessing Bags was founded by Penn High School student, Will Abercrombie, who saw a need in his community and decided to do something about it.

Growing up, Will's family volunteered at local non-profits often working alongside families facing serious hardships like housing and food insecurity. While those experiences opened his eyes to different needs, it was the kids he couldn't stop thinking about.

"I kept asking about the kids," Will recalls. "I couldn't make it make sense in my head that kids were in these really tough situations. I kept asking, why people didn't do more."

In the fall of 2024, at 14 years old, Will began researching on his own. He discovered the connection between trauma, chronic absenteeism, and lower test scores. Confirming when a child is facing a crisis, learning becomes difficult.

Wanting to create a solution, Will sought advice from Kristine Kuroski, founder of Angels in the Attic. She encouraged him to meet with school social workers, whose insights inspired the idea for backpacks filled with school supplies, clothing, hygiene items, and other essentials.

By summer of 2025, Will had earned the money to launch Little Blessing Bags. He did this by mowing lawns, babysitting, tutoring, and taking odd jobs.

In 2026, Will’s younger brother, Noah Abercrombie joined the team. Together, the brothers set an ambitious goal to provide 200 backpacks to 25+ area schools.

Noah has a vision to expand Little Blessing Bags beyond the Michiana area. As a former AAA hockey player, Noah has played on travel teams all over the Midwest and East coast. With his close connection to teammates in other cities and states, he believes he can create a network of interest to empower other young people to launch chapter programs in their own communities. With three commitments already, his idea is quickly becoming a reality.

How It Works

From your donation to a student's hands — here's how we make every bag possible.

1

Collect

Donations of backpacks, supplies, and clothing come in from community members, local businesses, and national brands. We also work to earn money to buy the items

2

Assemble

We pack each bag with care — school supplies, hygiene products, clothing, and a snack are assembled in each backpack

3

Deliver

We give the bags to school social workers, and they place bags directly into students' hands — at exactly the right moment

How We Choose Schools

We partner with schools to meet children where they are. Our partnerships extend beyond public schools. We also work with private schools and local churches in underserved communities. By working through trusted school social workers and church leaders, we ensure our backpacks reach kids who need it the most. What we look for:

🍽️

High Poverty Rate

70–100% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch

📅

Chronic Absenteeism

20%+ of students missing significant school time

🏠

Housing Instability

Higher rates of homelessness or foster care involvement

📊

Lower Academic Outcomes

Graduation rates under 70% or test proficiency under 30%

💔

Difficult Home Situations

Students navigating challenging family circumstances at home
